President Bush chasing terrorists

As a tenacious police detective in his shady office, President Bush searches the world for terrorists...
I once made this caricature at the request of the magazine 'Klap'.

My first sketches... It never works in one go... too bad, but it only works with more trying and more work... unless your name is Kim Jung Gi of course :-)

But eventually I get to a point where I'm okay with it...

I had to do 3 color tests to decide which direction I wanted to go...

Then for real: with gouache on A4 Steinbach 'Aquarelle' paper 250g/m².
I thought the result was okay ... but I WONDERED IF THIS WASN'T TOO DARK FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN,
the target group of my client 'Klap'.

I actually panicked! I wanted to do it again... but my time was almost up!
I traced it on the light box and in one day I quickly painted a lighter version. I didn't like it very much ...

... but it was more suitable for the very young readers of 'Klap', was'nt it?

Afterwards I made an VERY DARK VERSION.
Just for myself...as compensation for my self-denial I guess? Until today I hadn't shown it to anyone :-)
I made it through digital photo editing... This expresses the idea much better in my opinion...
